  • help? new to the world of tarantulas!

    Hi everyone

My boyfriend and I were thinking about getting a pink-toed tarantula. However before I decide, I thought I'd do some research first. I'd like to know how I should keep the humidity level up; some people have said to spritz the cage with water every day and night. Is this true? Or are there other ways? I just want to know, because we travel more frequently to visit family, and we'd have no one to do this sort of thing for us when we're gone! I'd appreciate any info anyone can give me!

Talking from personal experience with many Avic sp humidity is not a key factor its mainly ventilation I spray my Avics once in a while and have never had a problem raising or keeping this genus.
    hope this helps

Thanks, that did help. So we've got pretty much everything for her, I think, and now we're going to pick her up. I'm excited . I hope she likes her new home. And now I just have to figure out what to name her!

Hope all goes well. I can't seem to do well with avics at all but I am fine with others I think I over-care for them. Others don't have a problem, good luck anyway

Well, we finally brought our pinktoe home 2 days ago . She didn't take long to make herself at home, and by the next morning she was building her funnel - it's looking pretty good so far! The guy at the store said she was about 8 months old or so, and that he wasn't positive, but he thought she was a female; I guess we'll find out eventually! I just wanted to say I don't know why I didn't get one sooner- I love her already!

And ps: thanks for all the help! I know that, being the newbie that I am, I'll be needing more as I go along...

The guy didn't say, and it doesn't say anywhere on the tank they kept them in, but I just assumed it was an avicularia avicularia. I'm hoping to take some pictures soon, so when I do, I'll post them and people can maybe tell me if i'm right or not.

Yeh a pic would be helpful but its still very hard to identify a tarantula via a pic unless its a very common spider

Hi Avic's are easy to keep I keep the substrata Dry and have a water bowl at the bottom of the tank. with plenty of branches for them to climb on.

If you want any more into here are some care sheets for you.
