    Hi,
Leg span is measured from the tip of leg I (left front leg) to the tip of leg IV (right back leg). It is very difficult to measure this in most live tarantulas because they hunch up. It's easy in arboreal species which spread themselves out.

Body length is measured from the front of the chelicerae to the rear of the abdomen (obviously this can change depending on how well fed the spider is).

      Give 'em an inch......

      Hi,

I find they measure up nicely if you squish 'em as they tend to spread out quite well :P

No seriously, I have found the best way to get an accurate legspan meaurement - if you're prepared to wait for it - is from the freshly cast moult skin as you can straighten the legs out and get in close with a ruler without bothering your prize pets at all
      Don't tell the elf!
