  • looking for opinions?

This may sound like a silly kind of question but how would you say a female tarantula is adult or not?
For a few examples would you say its adult because.-
-Its grown about as big as it will most proberly get?
-Its able to mate-all be it its not as big as it can get?
-Its layed an eggsac mated/or not?
-It reacts to a males druming?

Just wondering what peoples views on this are

Well that all depends on whether you looking for sexual maturity in females or peer opinion on approximate LS BS with male theraphosids you can attain whether they are mature after penultimate moult. with there being no 100% bonafide data regarding theraphosid life spans in the wild one can only go with the CB peer opinion. Regarding size in captivity as they roughly even out the same as WC specimines but with power feeding and over feeding within captivity who is to say that WC specimines are older younger or...........

In the past couple of years i ahve had more breeding succses with females where the carapace size is the same as or slightly smaller than the mature males.

I have heard that technically speaking when a female spider has a spermatheca she can breed, not sure how true this is but it is a thought.
