  • Unusual markings?

    Just checked the cast skin of one of my C. "huahini" and glad to say it's female.

    There's some unusual markings on this one though that I've never seen before on any cast skin. Don't know if these are visible on the actual spider as I don't want to disturb it too much at the moment. The marks are visible on the outside of the skin too.

    Anyone seen this before?

    Yes John Hancock sent samples of these to a scientist years ago. They are caused by bacteria, but the scientist didn't have the time to look at the samples in detail. These bacteria don't harm the spider.

    Citharischius often have these markings - easy to see on pale-skined species. The blotches are usually more irregular than in Guy's specimen.
