  • Tegenaria?

I just this second foud this young male spider on my wall upstairs.
I dont have film in my camera so had to use my camera phone with camera lens in front to get this close up.

Its about 40mm across, has a brown marked abdomen, and the palps have an upward pointing spike on each one.

More likely to be Amaurobidiidae IMO, maybe A. similis?

              Hi!

If you're looking for some family keys of middle european spiders have a look at http://www.araneae.unibe.ch. Might help if you caught this little fella.

I agree with Guy - it's an adult male Amaurobius similis. It a very common house spider which produces a mesh web of bluish white silk, often on outside window sills.

                      Thanks Richard.

Theres another spider in our kitchen, much smaller and I cant get a close up view of it yet-tho my other half calls him George!

He has made a web like that of a Garden Spider(Araneus) yet he's indoors!

                        Hi Larry,
That one will almost certainly be Zygiella x-notata. One of the few orb-weavers which is active in winter, and common on buildings. Does the web have a sector missing (i.e. always looks unfinnished with missing 'spokes')?

                          Thanks Richard.
Not sure about the web as it was hard to see where it was placed, plus I had to disturb it to get a closer look.
I noticed its abdomen had markings on it similar to that of an Araneus.

(Ignore the white blob in this poor pic, thats some dust)

I so need a decent digi camera!

I believe this little fellow is one of its babies, yet I thought the adult was male!

And you know, having googled Zygiella x-notata, I have to say it does look like that!
