  • Chilobrachys species Pulau Langkawi Malaysia

Here are a few images of a Chilobrachys species in situ in a hole in a large buttress tree.

Spotted during the day by Kim along with another silken hole by myself which proved empty, we then re examined on a night trek into the forest.

    Enjoy.

This is quite possible a un-described species...as I know not of any species yet described from this area.

large and aggressive and living arboreally.

    regards
    Mark

Another "sp Pennellii" in the pipeline then

What height was the webbing in the tree, are they using the trunk or thinner branches as a "hunting ground"?
I know a lot of people like to have their enclosures set up as close to natural as possible and info from "wild type" situ's are are great starting point.

        thanks for posting the pics

We never removed the spider... its till in situ. The tree was about 90 feet tall on a very steep hillside. The spider was around 4 feet off the ground in a hole in one of the buttresses of the tree.

The other one we found was in a fallen tree and if it was in there when the tree was upright it would have been around 30 feet off the ground.

          cheers
          Mark

              Thank you Claire
However not technically my find, it was Kim who spotted the one with a spider in it, the one I found was gone looked like it had been found by and insect eating animal such as the many flying lemurs that abound in the area.
