  • Thrixopelma cyaneum

It's been some time since I purchased a new T but I had this offer put in front of me and I couldn't pass it up. I've always liked Thrixopelma but with this purchase, it has been set in stone as my favorite species. What do you all think of her?

Thanks for the compliments everyone. I've not heard of a common name for this yet. It looks pretty cobalt colored to me too.

i've just bought 3 Thrixopelma pruriens slings, not sure how they compare for shiny-ness to your specimen, but pretty excited nonetheless!
your spider is gorgeous! how is its temperament?

well this is a prime example of common names being a load of old dung!
cyan means blue, last i checked! hence the "cyaneum"
red rump indeed!<-(actual eye-rolling far less tolerant than shown)

From what I can gather there's some confusion to this species concerning reclassification and the exact name but its not hard to see where the red rump comes from:

yeah, that's fair enough...as common names go
but surely the blue is more obvious then the red! bah, who cares! Thrixopelma cyaneum it is, unless re-classified

That is some beautiful colouration. Blue is my favourite colour, so this could maybe a future tarantula for me.

As James has said, cyan is a blue hue. Modern four colour printing techniques use four colours, red, blue, yellow and black. Or more accurately, magenta, cyan, yellow and black. I had to chip in with that. I studied printing at college.
