  • Salmon pink Tarantula

Hi, I'm looking very seriously at getting a salmon pink tarantula, and wonder if anyone knows how to keep them?.I know that they get fairly big and need more floor space than height. If anyone has any ideas on the correct temp/humidity requirements, please let me know b4 the bts expo.
    Thanks Gizza.

    Name: Lasiodora parahybana

    Common name: Salmon pink tarantula

This big terrestrial originates from within the Brazilian state of Paraiba, eastward of the city of Joao Pessoa, Brazil in the humid east Atlantic rain forests. Climate generally warm and humid with consistent rainy periods. Paraiba covers an area of approximately 56,372 square kilometers and has a population of 3,250,000. The scientific name coming from Paraiba. The location or state in Brazil where L. parahybana originates.

This is one of the larger terrestrial species often reputed to rival Theraphosa blondi in size.

It has been reported that these spiders have lived 10-25 years in captivity.

This is a large arachnid and is said it may need a big enclosure. It's suggested that a 20-gallon aquarium would be adequate to house an adult. Being terrestrial they make a good display species although some may prefer to burrow as well. I have read reports both ways.

They are adaptable and can be kept under a wide range of temperatures and humidity levels within reason. Trying to achieve exact temps and RH levels is futile and problematic, often with consequences.

These are bold, fast moving, and somewhat nervous sub-adults until settled in to their new enclosures. Depending on your animal's disposition some are handleable..some are not. I would not recommend handling this species.

Generally speaking they are black during post molt, medium to dark brown in pre molt color with salmon colored bristles covering the legs and abdomen. They are very active eaters and will take prey items without hesitation. The Salmon pink tarantula, once fully grown is a formidable predator to be sure reaching an overall size in the 9" – 11” range making anything within a 12" radius within the strike range for a full grown adult.

This is probably not a good species for your first selection but it can be managed quite easily so it would not be the worst choice either. If you are seeking a large, terrestrial and or an exceptional display animal once fully grown you could not go wrong with this species of Brazilian tarantula.
Let no one say and to your shame, all was good until you came.
