Small, pretty and you never see the buggers.
They like to dig and make a burrow. I think I'm right in saying they like it pretty dry (both of mine are doing fine anyway).
What else do you want to know?

They are very fast and mine will both bite quickly.
I dont hold any spider at all but C.f. wouldn't be the first one I'd go to to try.

Is this spider the Costa rican tiger rump, It looks the same or something else....

Funny you should bring this up, Richard Gallon and i were discussing maybe doing something for the BTS journal on the "Tiger Rumped" species in the hobby.

There is a good chance that what you have is not the real "Costa Rican" Tiger Rump Davus fasciatus, but either Davus penaloris from Mexico, or a large "tiger Rumped" species possibly another Davus sp or a Cylosternum speceis, also from Mexico. Or amybe something totally different.

There is also another small "Tiger Rumped" species from Guatamala recently entered the pet trade (Lee from the spider shop has some) which looks more like the origonal D. fasciatus collected in Costa Rica in the early 80s by ex BTS members, sadly no longer with the BTS.

So if you are not a member of the BTS a really good reason to join and if you are a member a good reason to keep your subscription renewed.

I will take this opertunity to make a request:

For the above mentioned article if anyone has dead males, females, or moults from large females of ANY of the "Tiger Rumped" species, would it be possible for us to have them so we have more material to work from.

Your name, the species you bought it as would also be very usefull.

Ray, does the size of the moult skin matter?
I might have a pretty small one here. Got 2 " C. fasciatum" here of different sizes. 1 moulted a couple of weeks ago and 1 has just webbed itself in a camera pot.
The biggest spider is approx 1" body and t'other is a bit smaller. poss 2 moults behind.

Let me know if they are any good and I'll try to hunt the last one out.

Hi,

Nope the size of the skin does not really matter as we can see if there are any changes in the shape of the spermathece during thier growth.

But i think these would be the smallest size we could use.
