  • Bad P.Regalis moult

A few days ago my 5-6cm p.regalis moulted. I don't think it stretched itself out properly after moulting though. A day after the moult i saw it moving around in a clenched up ball. It looked very odd and i have never seen anything like from any of my other spiders.

It then went into it's retreat where it had not moved for 4 days. After checking this morning it was dead.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar? I guess it's just one of those unfortunate events.

Bad moults do unfortunatly occur. Shedding is an extremely difficult time for a tarantula and even the best kept specimens do occasionally undergo a bad moult. Of all the things we know about our charges we still have yet to find a way to improve or assist nature. We have all seen this happen and lost good spiders. I find that keeping records helps as this gives you an insight into the approx time they may moult. Maintaining humidity before and after the moult may help. I dont think lack of food would have affected it as most spiders go off their food before a moult.
If its any consulation try not to fret too much as I am sure it is nothing you may have done..
