    Hi,

again maybe a silly question but what water do most people use for their spiders.
For my frogs and reptiles i usually add things like "reptisafe" to tap water which is supposed to remove chlorine and chloramines (don't know if it really works, but makes me feel better at least). have know idea whether that stuff would be save for spiders.
Can you use normal UK tapwater without any problems?

    thanks,

    Joost

        Hi,

I have always used tap water for my T... She doesn't seem to mind but as someone else has already said, if you are worried used filtered or bottled water instead...

I have used tap water for over 20 years with no problem at all. However I alway use this from a bottle I filled the night before. This gives it time to evaporate off the chlorine.

Now you know why that glass of water on the side of the bed tastes so much better half way through the night.....!

            Regards
            Mark

The water in Milton Keynes is so hard that I buy Tesco spring water for mine, I had a rescue spider given to me with what looked like calcification around the mouthparts and have,t given tap water since.

By its very nature spring water will hold more disolved solids than tap water.

                Just worth mentioning I feel

Also on another note (not on the spider topic) ever notice the water seems better from kitchen than bathroom and is better when water is left for a while. Back to spiders i generally fill up a mist bottle and the water settles in there and spray the litte nippers and fill there water bowl from the mist bottle

I rarely use water bowls - more hassle than they're worth IMO (but note that I keep Africans which don't like high humidity anyway, and I don't heat tanks too high).

Maintain a damp corner in the viv and the tarantula will simply drink the condensation on the side of the tank. Condensed water is as pure as you'll get - all dissolved minerals will have been left in the substrate when it evaporated.

Like Mark says - bottled water is usually highly mineral-rich (because it usually comes from limestone springs and is high in dissolved minerals like carbonates etc..). My tap water is soft, coming straight off the North Wales mountains (acidic and low in dissolved minerals).

Don't bother with those expensive water treatments. The 'Chlorine' will rapidly disappear out of the water anyway if left to sit overnight in an unsealed container.

i always thought bottled water was a better option for my T's
now you say tap is better.

Dear Lord, I pray for: Wisdom, To understand a man , to Love and to forgive him , and for patience, For his moods. Because Lord, if I pray for Strength I'll just beat him to death'

I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning thats as good as their going to feel all day.
