hi all, i have been thinking about getting some sort of lighting effects for my tarantulas 5 of ... my scorpion.. and 2 leopard geckos. I have seen some moonlighting effect lights that does have a dimmer on ebay at quite a cheep price of £14 with 2 ccfl 12" strips and power adaptor.the blue i was thinking for my gecko's. one other guy from ebay said he had all colours blue red purple etc. he adviced me to have red for my tarantulas, which i sort of knew anyway. i am not puting the light in my tank but making something that would be in front of and above. for an effect that you could see them at night because they are nocturnal but not so much to bother them. can somebody give me advice on this? and if anybody knows of any place to aquire something like this...... thanks....steve.

Red light can't be seen by tarantulas, so they are not disturbed when its used , therefore behaving quite naturally when used.
I leave a red light on in the spider room some nights, and can go in and observe them in the early hours without disturbing them! Give it a go - you'll be amazed at what you see - especially the arborials!

thanks sean, i am going to give it a go. i read in one of my books if you were going to use a light for Ts red would be the one to go for because as you said they don't disturb them.. i was just checking this was true. because some books seem to contradict one another.... and the ones im after are dimmable to so this should better. cheers ... steve.

take a look at the moonlight tubes available for fish tanks. I have one of them in the lid of my regalis colony and they seem to totaly ignore it when I turn it on.
