  • tanks and housing????????

can anyone suggest any websites where I could look to buy tanks from because my local shop has a very poor selection thanks in advance
The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

You know this might sound unusual but try going into a newsagents or local shop and ask if they have any large plastic sweet jars they are going to throw away or that are empty and ask if its ok to have a couple you may get it/ them for free or may pay a small sum like 10p each and the large plastic sweet jars are ideal for arboreal. High enough for bark, hides and leaves, diameter is adequate for the T to wonder about. It may not look as appealing on the shelf as say a glass aquarium wit hsliding glass door and so on but when your collection grows and you have dozens you will be glad of the space saving value and economical as its cheap. They hold humidity very well because you can put small vent holes in the lid or round the sides. My mate had an inventive idea of cutting a small strip at the side bottom or top side of the sweet jar by say 2inch by 1/2 inch and covered it over with tights or stockings not sure which but they were very good for ventilation. At ther moment I have both my P Cambridgei both in large coffee jars, it will be nightmare to change to larger quarters when they grow, had them few monthes and quadrupled in size already. Anyway, sweet jars a re a good idea for arboreals

Bear in mind though that some T's can chew through metal ventilation mesh, so I would suggest that using tights could end up being a very bad idea. There's also a possibility that the T might get it's claws caught up in the material.

I saw an adult B. smithi in a pet shop which had one of its claws caught up in ventilation mesh on the lid its tank. It was struggling so badly that I thought it may throw the leg. It eventually freed itself and fell to the bottom of the tank with a thud. Fortunately it looked to be uninjured, but it could just as easily have been killed by the fall.

Thats a very good point if they can chew through metal they have no problem with nylon, maybe just a few ventilation holes the old fashioned way is best.

Either stand it on its other end, the crack is not a problem, or house the spider in a sweet jar or 5L cerial container. (there will be an article on the se in a future BTS JOurnal)

if the bottom is cracked then jus put some aquarium sealer on it and cover it with card or a thin piece of ply wood this will make it dark for the t and will strengthen the back
