AES today

Well that ended up being a great day out, i expanded my T's collection by about 20 spiders, 6 of which were species i didn't have and my scorps by 10 only 1 of which was a new one (Nebo histronicus, can't find anything on this one, common name Jehrico forest scorp).

It was really good as well to be able to put faces to some of the names that are the driving force of the BTS

The BTS had it usual society stand at the AES and it was really nice to meet new people, friends and members alike.

We had a great day! roll on the FEB lectures and the BTS expo in 2007

I bought the same scorpion, It seemed to be mis intentified, and its name would actually be Nebo hierochonticus.

They are beautiful though, aren't they

my apologies for waisting 3 replies on making one statement.
Just in case i cause offence with the term "mis indentified", im pretty sure it is called Nebo hierichonticus at the moment. however my knowledge is limited , it is also possible that histonicus is or was a valid name.

I've come to the same conclusioin Joost as i've not been able to find anything for histonicus, i know the seller so i'm going to get in touch with him for a confirmation (or otherwise ), did you get yours from "Spidershop" by any chance?

yeah i did get it from the spidershop

great little scorp. ate it's first cricket last night (saw it claws sticking out if its hide so supposed it was ready).

I would be a bit careful though i have found a few refferences to its venom usefully not to bed (which you would expect becuase of the look of the scorpion) but also a few confliting statements

I had an 'orange fringe' bite it's way out of one of those containers a few weeks ago, I wouldn't go into the spider room alone till it was caught. You are lucky it didn't get loose on the way home.

LOL yeah that must have caused some exitement. That is still my biggest fear having to crawl around the house on belly to find some escaped spider.

Just like to say a big thank you to all those who visited the BTS stand on Saturday. Always great to meet old friend and of course make new ones.
We never make huge amounts but we cover the cost of the tables and pick upa few members. Its a great day out and I would recommend it to you al.
There were some nice spiders there ( Lees stand in particular) and a good array of insects. I did notice a few spiders in poor condition on other stands but they were not selling.
I never really buy anything ( I know....too mean) but I do enjoy the day.

Update on Nebo histronicus Joost.

I've had a reply from Lee at the Spidershop, he says

No it is a exact species just rarily seen. Here is some information we have on them:

This very rarely seen Scorpion is the biggest species in the Middle east and
the only species in it's genus. It is found mostly in Israel but can also be
found in Jordan and Syria as well. This species is mostly found in scrub land
and forested areas where they are opportunistic housers. They rarely dig their own burrow and are mostly found in abandoned burrows or under rocks.

So, the search for info continues
