  • Opistophthalmus whalbergi breeding

I have a suspected gravid Whalberg's scorpion Opistophthalmus whalbergi and was wondering if anyone out there has any experience in breeding this species of scorpion. I bought her from a pet shop about a year ago. she has a huge seperation between dorsal and ventral scales looking like a classically gravid female. Recently she has increased her burrowing activity and stopped feeding so I'm hoping she's going to give birth soon.

Any tips on optimal conditions for birth greatly apreciated.

A good tip with all desert/savannah species is raising the humidity slightly. Had success with this in Parabuthus liosoma, Vaejovis spinigerus, Hottentotta sp. and several others.

I would advise asking on arachnoboards for specific advise. Opistophthalmus spp. have proven very hard to raise in captivity most people have 100% mortality of the young, its probably due to an inability to replicate natural burrow conditions.
