Slightly off topic I know but I'm looking to buy a new digital camera with the main aim being to take some nice pictures of my bugs. I'm on a budget of ~£300 but don't realy know what I'm looking for in a camera to be able to take decent close up shots.

Can anyone recomend any good cameras or what I should be looking for in a camera for macro photography.

Fuji fine pix S20 pro - macro to 1cm only 6.1 mp but has excellent dynamic range and is really cheap now. £225...

Plus you can get macro rings cheaply on ebay for even closer close ups

I get on really well with it...

Currently got one of these. No complaints what-so-ever.
Just inside your budget but at 9 Meg your not likely to need
to upgrade anytime soon.

Macro and super-macro down to 1cm for those close up shots.

I have only used Fuji digi cams, was so pleased with my 1st one i never changed, i now use fuji s9500 (still learning to use this one) most digi with 4+MP and decent macro are good for bug shots.

Do you find that with 1cm macro that the pics are grainy with the light blocked from the subject by the camera? it's a problem i have struggled with.

Got a phone with a light? Use that as a light source.

Thanks for all the replies, I think I'll go for a Fuji then. Hopefully once I've learnt how to use it I'll get some nice pics of all my beasties posted up!

I did when i was using flash, but for real close ups i use a tripod, no flash and extend the exposure to compensate. Needs the subject to sit still for a few seconds though
