  • B.T.S North American Representatives

    The
    British Tarantula Society

Are please to announce the committee position of

    North American Representative.

Over the last few years the BTS has spread its wings far and wide, the introduction of the online store and the growing reputation of the BTS Journal has brought in many new International members.

We are very proud to have these new members and felt that we needed to expand our European Representative post and add an North America one.

After long discussion at committee level, the motion was agreed and voted on. The two candidates where duly notified of their nomination to the post.

    It is with great pleasure we are very please to announce that both;

Scott Scher and Michael Jacobi have accepted these roles, and have notified the committee of their acceptance.

Both have tirelessly promoted the BTS in the past and brought in many new members to the BTS, for this reason both were perfect for this new role.

Recently Scott has been helping on the new forum and without his invaluable help the new forum would not have got of the ground so quickly, so he joins as, not only BTS-North American Rep. But also part of the growing BTS Information Technology Dept as forum Admin. (BTS IT Dept)

Please give a big warm BTS welcome both Scott and Michael

    Regards
    BTS Committee.

Since I will be an exhibitor... I am afraid I can't help on the doors But I can help before and after the event.

Both have excellent histories in the hobby and in the US. How about Canada? As I've heard, there may be a spring enthusiast gathering, is there a plan for with Scott or Michael to attend or are ya'll trying to get a representative there too?

Regardless, the new lines of communication are a great thing to see.

              Thanks Christian,

Our membership in Canada is growing by the day. Myself and Mark ( not forgetting Ang and Kim of course...Phew) hope to get over to the States one day.

You are right we are entering a new era of Anglo/American co-operation.

keep up the good work out there.

We are North American reps so we will be spreading the mission of the BTS in Canada and Mexico as well - not to mention beyond. What is the Spring gathering you are referring to? I know Scott has attended Canadian gatherings in the past, but I try to stay where it is warm

                Best regards, Michael

I believe there have been many threads on Arachnoboards and a few on ATS about the Canandian gathering.

It's still a long shot I think... If there is one nearer in Canada I'll make the drive also, but Regina is too far!

I hope one or both of you can also make the ATS conference this year! I'm sure we can get a table or something set up for the BTS. I'm willing to put it forward and do my best to help recruitment.

As for Mexico... can you imagine a large gathering there with local enthusiasts and American and BTS members??!!?? Now that would be impressive indeed.

Firstly, Congratulations to Scott and Michael, I know you both will do the BTS well in N.A.

There have been a few "Canadian Arachno-gatherings" in Toronto (Well, technically Guelph), ON, usually only a small group (10-20) in attendance, however.

There's not much chance I will be in Saskatchewan anytime soon... unless they move it closer to the equator. LOL!

Toronto in the summer is very nice, but my schedule is a bit busy then... and again, north.

I'll have to see how things go in the next couple of months, but if the BTS committee is interested in me manning a table at the ATS conference I just might make it. With Feb and May in England, July for Arachnocon, November for Costa Rica and December for another T expedition to a 'secret' location, my funds are already stretched quite thin. And boy would I like to make Stuttgart in October... Now acception donations

                        Best regards, Michael

*I* "think" part of the problem (at least in Canada) is the perception that the BTS (or ATS for that matter) doesn't "do" anything in particular for a person living in Canada (or other country); I've noticed in the Canadian portion of the hobby that people tend to be less inclined to reading "serious" articles in a journal than in other areas of the world. I've not yet discovered why this is the case, but this certainly is my perception.

The hobby in Canada is still somewhat in its infancy, which is certainly not helped by our vast geographical distance between major urban centres, making a "community" feeling virtually impossible.
