  • BTS Gallery and the Theraphosidae Gallery

    Hi All
You may have noticed over the past week or so the BTS forum has sprouted a new Gallery section.

As you may have also noticed there is a Theraphosidae Gallery and a Members Gallery.
First off a little about the Theraphosidae Gallery.

This Gallery started life on the BTS site many, many moons ago, myself and Richard Gallon worked on this idea but at the time it was difficult to obtain images and make sure they where correctly identified, there were indeed lots of gaps and it kind of went off the boil a bit…

However it was never forgotten and has always been lurking in the back of my mind surfacing now and again shouting – for god’s sake sort it out!

With the introduction of the new BTS VBulletin Powered forum, I set about the plan to kick start the Theraphosidae Galley with a vengeance.
Needless to say it has surpassed all my expectations thanks to the sterling, selfless and generous work by this extraordinary group of People the Gallery has grown into something quite spectacular.
So a massive BTS special thanks to the following people.

    BTS Theraphosidae Group
    Richard Gallon - Admin
    Michael Jacobi - Admin
    Volker von Wirth
    Søren Rafn
    Steve Nunn
    Ray Gabriel
    Guy Tansley
    Eric Reynolds
    Phil Messenger

Also we have several other people invited into this user-group who have yet to post, I will be thanking them in due course.

Only people within or invited into this group can post in this Gallery. They are easily spotted as their username will be in purple or if they are an admin or mod, red and orange respectively.

BTS Members Gallery (apply to me now)
We will be shortly activating the member’s galleries, and a small amount of web space will be assigned to BTS members who have joined the BTS Discussion forum using the Real Name Campaign rules. A full set of Gallery rules will be posted as well, these rules come guidelines will be strictly enforced.

So to re-cap, to successfully apply for the BTS Member Gallery
You must be a current BTS Member
You must register or be registered on the BTS Discussion forum using your Real Name.
You must follow the rules and regulations of the BTS Gallery.

    Regards
    Mark Pennell

Great job Mark, and many thanks to everyone who has contibuted so far. Already I've seen some very uncommon species and I've been checking the gallery nearly every day to see is if its been updated! Hope it continues to grow and I look forward to seeing each new picture added.

          Hello!
Mark, what about the truth of the gallery species ID?
What about these Grammostola iheringi, for example, which definately is not anything like the true G. iheringi according to some well-known uruguayan scientists?
          I bet this: http://thebts.co.uk/forums/gallery/s...o.php/photo/24
and this: http://thebts.co.uk/forums/gallery/s...ry.php/cat/581 are the same species, isn't it??? But the names are a little bit different... khm...
I would show You more if You'd like...

Sure, just my suspections, but I believe not speculations...

How about these two different names below the identical fotos?

            Hi Mikhail
As you well now Grammostola is possibly in just a big a mess as Avicularia
I will voice your comments to the images posters.

As for the last 2 images agreed its the same image, not sure what's up there, I'll contact Soren. Its a wide spread species, Martin Nicholas did find this deep in Kalimantan some 8 or 9 years back.

The Gallery has grown in size extremely fast and there are bound to be teething problems. Also as we all know taxonomic changes and differing opinions are going to be a major problem. However with the current team of posters the plan is to stay on top of this as much as possible.

Now get to bed young man, and get some sleep.

            All the best
            Mark

              I see Mark!

I'm believe that what "has grown in size extremely fast" issue should not beat the quality and reputation of the source if I'm still a BTS member I have feeling for this indeed...
As Russians told: "We would like it to be the better, but it is goes as the usual..." should be no the case than.
As for the mess... In Avicularia I see only the one mess in gallery - A. azuraklaasi... Grammies should be much better than, at least I believe the real G. iheringi is out of the question

"Now get to bed young man, and get some sleep" - I would like, believe me, Mark, but I can't - still have to earn some money for my small family for surviving in this cruel world of theraphosids taxonomy ))
              All the best,
              Mikhail from Russia

My image has been moved to mollicoma. As Mark stated, this gallery project grew quickly and we will be making revisions as needed. Framework first, fine tuning second.

                Kind regards, Michael
