  • Cool Ambient Air Temps

In short i have moved my home office in to our porch and intend on moving my G.rosea in with me. However, i have some concerns! Firstly the porch is not heated. This time of year the temps are fine, but when we have a cooler day the ambient air temps can be a little crisp. This leads on to a huge concern about temps next winter. So are there any species anyone can suggest that are more hardy to fluctuating temps and cooler ambient temps?

Why not go all in and get it a Polar Bear to play with - the only animal in the world that will actively hunt human beings... Awesome.
All those legs and not a pair of shoes in sight... Nice tarsus tho...

G.rosea are tough littlle blighters after all the night time temp drop in the wild is pretty dramatic. I would seriously look at relocating her if you can or getting some type of heating for her. A heat mat will suffice or failing that try heating the porch with a green house heater (electric).

Why the porch though...have you been banished???

I will take it as a no then!

Maybe i should of given a few more details. My T's will be kept in my computer cabinet which has a heat mat on the rear wall. Will this provide enough heat alone or should i look at other means? Even with a heat mat on one wall will the ambient air temp be ok?

Ah I see. The computer cabinet will be fine. Does it have a glass front or anything. Some T's will take a lower temp. In my experience usually the S.American species are more reslient to lower temps. A deep substrate will allow them to thermoregulate the temp within the burrow.

Ray, i work from home and used to use the dining room. I like to shut off from work and hated looking at my computer, printer and files of a weekend. Also the wife and kids used to be and out all the time so i had to move as i spend alot of time on the phone. So i, sorry the Mrs decided the porch was the best place for me as it has a double glazed door and is fairly roomy. Its great to be honest! lol

But the problem i have is that its not heated! This is why i posted this thread. Any other suggestions?

Get rid of the wife and move back in

                  Only joking honest.

Sounds like you are on the right track with the cabinet. I would put a glass front on it ,this will help to maintain a temperature. The biggest problem I have come across is humidity. The old saying out of sight out of mind applies. I know a few people who keep collections away from the madness of every day life. The secret is to be vigilant. I would definatly look at a small green house heater on a thermostat. I use a Dragon Oil Filled radiator to heat my room and have no problems.

                  hope this helps

Could you not find a place for a little storage heater to hold the temperature constant through the night. i think they all have thermostats on them so dialing in a temp will be easy enough.

Just ordered a heater with thermostatic control to keep the room at constant preset temp! woo hooo! (sorry easily pleased!)

Nah, these are great. I have one set up in a cupboard type unit where I have all my slings. I have a shelf in the middle and have roughly set up a couple of temperature zones.

Also picked up a nifty digital thermometer which reads at the base unti and also at the probe so you can measure/compare hot and cool zones. Oh, and also checks humidity! And all for just 18 quid!
