  • Greetings to one and all!!! A Q if you please

Hi all first post and im going to make it a Q, i have recently acquired a spider ( rescued from someone who is now scared of it ) now it has attributes of a Brazilian White legg & brazilian Giant White Knee, now this isnt a problem but i would love to know which it is i would like to know some specifics regarding identifying which it is. im guessing it will be difficult!!!! also it has something i have never come accross before with any spider i have seen or heard of it has white fangs, can anyone explain this to me is it a case of a genetic defect a natural occurance or some other!!!! i do find it very attractive on this particular spider, i will try to post some pictures just as soon as i have figuerd out how!!!! i hope to hear from alot of you on this!!!

    Cheers people

    Geoff

    Hi Geoff

This is A Geniculata, one common name is the Brazilian White Knee tarantula

Hope this helps for an ID on yours

The white fang scenario...has it recently moulted as the fangs are white just after moulting and then harden up and go black (normally over the period of a week or so)

well ty for the swift reply!!! well i hadnt considerd the shedding but i have never come accross the fangs going white during or after a shed you learn something new every day!!!! i will keep an eye on it for the next few weeks. as to the picture, well i have looked at as many pictures as i can and that has the right pattern on the legs but the colour is wrong and its the other way around with the Brazilian white leg!! she is a dusty redish brown hue to her hair with a dark soily brown to her main body she looks stunning but its hard to put my finger on as i have said it cold be both, its just so frustrating !!!!!!!! it makes little difference the care is reletivly similar i will just have to see what shes happiest with and go with it!!!!!! on another note the Spanish Funnelweb i got from the same person is happy as you like !!!! she started to dig a trench in her tank and hopfully in the next few weeks there will be an impressive little web structure in there!! horrah!!! Thanks again if you have any more suggestions on how the hell i tell which she is lol. ill be most greatfull. im going to have to figure out hpw to post a pic and show every one then see whats what!!!! im probably going to look like a muppet im sure that one if not more of you lot will take one look and tell me straight away what it is lol!!!!!

There are 3 species I know of that have similar colouration.

        Acanthoscurria Geniculata
        Nhandu Chromatus
        &
        Nhandu Colloratovilosum

Check these out and see what fits (Colin's given you an example of one)

I'am sure mark would not mind a few pictues of reptiles...i mean there a few a forum members that post pics of scorps and no one seems to mind. At the end of the day this fourm is not to fussy...as long as it does not become habbit..

I think the general picture scenario is Tarantulas and their Kin.
Myself and another member had a thread where pictures of a frog and Chameleon were shown, but for a good reason concerning the continuing upkeep of Tarantulas.

I think Mark Pennel (the BTS Web policeman as he's been called) would have something to say about a "load" of reptile pics going up, at the end of the day this is a Tarantula forum (Scorpions are ok).

Nice to hear that you keep reptiles as well though, a lot of us do on here but if we want to talk about them we join another forum (ie reptileforums.co.uk etc etc)

hope to see a picture of your T on here soon, we can all have a further educated guess then.

I wouldnt think it would be a c.chromatus if it has a brown body, the chromatus has a creamy white carapace. but the white fangs definatly seems as it just shed.

might be worth a quick look through the BTS Theraphosidae Gallery to see if you can find it there, or post a picture here.

As for posting images of reptiles, can please ask that you do indeed refrain for doing so. I know a great deal of us keep reptiles and the hobbies do often intertwine.

There are indeed other excellent forums out there which are for reptiles only or cover a broad range of exotic pets, where you can post, such images I know as I am subscribed to most of them.

I would and don't want to come across as purist but the BTS forum is unique in that fact it is purely for Tarantulas and their related kin. A small island home for our fluffy eight legged friends is a see of general exotic pet’s websites.

I have tried to keep this a tarantula discussion forum in a hope it can offer that "just a little something different" which I think we do..

I hope you understand what I mean

                            Regards
                            Mark
P.S A big welcome to the forum.
