  • Its a Girl!!!

So I go into work as normal today, and at 10:30 this morning I get a picture message off my Dad.

Sorry for the bad pics he's never used my camera!!
I was gutted I was at work, but got a few updates through the day.

And when I get home she was out.

After examining the exuvium shes definately a girl I see a flap.

Congratulations, she's really beautiful. And that exuvium is about as girly as it gets.

Hi Mike, strangely enough i got home tonight to find that our adult smithi has molted as well & like yourself we have a definite girl, I had sexed her visually but I'm never certain until I get a skin to examine.

So now we're looking for a nice fresh male if anyone out there has one???

        Mike.

I must admit Im started to get interested in maybe trying to breed one of my T's. I even considered buying the pair of G. roseas that are on the spidershop.
How big would a B. smithi have to be to be considered an adult?? Without getting a good look I would estimate leg span around 4.5"...

          Cheers

          Mike

Hi Mike. First can I say what a lovely tarantula! I don't own a B. smithi myself but I hope to do so in the near future. For breeding I tend to have a rule of 5 inches in size for the female, unless the species is naturally smaller than that. You could try a male, if the female is well fed then she is more likely to chase him off than harm him, so you won't lose anything either way. Once again well done on having such a great spider!!
