    Hi Scott
You have the right idea about the heat mat, under the tank is better and keep it to one end so there's a cooler area. 70 - 80 degrees is fine for the hotter side. keep humidity between 65- 75 percent and this will be fine also (rosea's like it a bit on the dryer side)
From my experience of having them, if you feed two - three food items per week (the right size to suit the size of spider) then this will be fine.
sometimes, when coming up for a moult for example, they will go off their food all together for any length of time from a few weeks to several months. this is normal and nothing to worry about as long as you provide clean fresh water at all times.
If its a mature male then you will be able to tell by looking on the front legs, if there is a tibial spur (like a little hook) on the lower part of the leg then it's a male. if it's not fully grown, but quite large 3-4 inches, then the next time it moults you could post a picture of the moult and someone on here may be able to give you a good idea from experience
we'll come to that later though eh?
I used to teach dyslexics in Leicester and one of the first things i used to say to them was don't appologise for having dyslexia, many famous people such as Albert Einstein, Winston Churchill, Alexander Graham Bell, Leonardo DeVinci and Thomas Edison had dyslexia, look what marvels they brought into our history.

        Hi Scott and welcome

Congratulations on your first tarantula. The G. rosea's are great beginner T's although I dont have one yet but will be adding one to my collection at some point.
Colin has given you excellent advice so I wont add anything.

You dont need to apologise for having dyslexia. My daughter is also dyslexic and I'm well used to reading what she writes.

Hi Scott and welcome. The G roseas are lovely Ts and I now have 4 in my care (1 female and 3 males I believe). I feed mine a couple of locusts twice a week and they seem happy enough and I always make sure there is water available to them. My daughters Rosea didnt eat for 6 months and we were both a little concerned but I was assured by people here that that was normal. It went on to have a successful moult and has certainly regained his appetite now. Enjoy him because they really are stunning.

Finally, never ever apologise for being dyslexic as it's more common than people think, my husband and daughter are both dyslexic and I also think my other 2 boys have it to a lesser degree.
          B. boehmei - T. blondi - G. rosea x 5 -
          C. cyaneopubescens - N. chromatus -
          L. parahybana - H. maculata x 2 - G. aureostriata
          P. irminia - P. murinus

Sorry to hear you got treated so badly on the other forum. People can be so cruel sometimes but you wont find that here. I'm pretty new here and have found that everyone very nice and helpful.

If you are looking for info on your G. rosea you could try a search of the web for its latin name Grammostola rosea. You will find loads of interesting reading. I'm sure someone with more knowledge than me will post you info on books etc.

Yes scott, stuff the others on that gaming site, they're obviously ignorant.

If you need to know anything about your T, then post here and your question will be answered.

Scott you can order your other live food from livefoods.co.uk

please do not keep anything else in the same tank as your chille rose as either it or in this case the mantid would end up hurt or dead and eaten.

A 12 inch tank should be ample space for a chille so your OK there, if your worried the substrate is to wet you can always dry it out in the oven or microwave.
Although a heat mat on the bottom on one side of the tank is OK I always prefer to keep mine on one side or the back of a tank as Tarantulas burrow to get away from hot and cold temperatures and I was always worried mine would get confused and unhappy if they tried to do this only to find it getting hotter.
You do not say if your starter kit came with a hide of some sort for your chille if not this is a must have a plant pot a bit of cork bark or even one of those caves you can get for snake and gecko tanks is a must have if you don't already have something of the sort. Or any other cleaned out container you can think of and want to use that is suitable for the chille in terms of size I.e. the spider can fit in and have room left over for moving round etc.

I think Scott means he can share the food items between them.
