A big sigh of relief....!

Well, after the recent events with my Theraphosids and losing them in moult I was in a right state over my impending T, blondi moult.

I got out of bed bleary eyed this morning to find that the little blighter had only gone and done it successfully!

Thank goodness!

And one of the new additions from the show yesterday was a shiny new T, apophysis juvenile, about 10cm legspan, so fingers crossed for that one too!

One observation from this successful moult - I didn't mist the tank as much. The substrate was moist but nowhere near damp as it had been for the ones I lost - just wonder if they need it more on the drier side!?

Thats fabulous news Johanna. You can now relax a bit. I'm so pleased that your T. blondi's moult was a success.

Congratulations on your new T. apophysis. 10cm is quite big so I can only imagine how big he/she is going to get.

Im going to take some pics tonight of the new members of my family. I've got to wait till dark for my P. regalis to come out. She was out and about last night, and what a sight, she must be at least 6"+

Congrats, 3rd time lucky!

I don't think humidity plays as large a role as we think in a successful moult, as fluids are present inside the exoskeleton which must keep it lubricated to an extent?

I tend to agree Robert,
i've had same species, Rosea's, same size, moult just as easy some in quite dry environments, and some in quite damp (when they've piled their substrate into the water dish and its soaked outside)
I'm more inclined to go along with premoult behaviour such as feeding for nutrients and clean fresh water for hydration.

Congratulations !! What a relief, you must of been going crazy. Glad all turned out well.

How did you get on at the show (or have I missed a previous link) ?
Or should I ask how many did you buy?

I'm not so sad about missing the show now, as if I had gone I'd of missed my B.bohemi moult.

Well.....

I have had a chance to go an check out my shiny new T, blondi and I'm a little confused.

Although I would say it was definately a T, blondi pre-moult, now I'm not so sure.

Mike, what colour was yours when it moulted?

Mine looks incredibly like a L, parahybana!! The hairs are slightly different but it is very red all over.

It looks physically like a blondi, and the shape of the carapace and the skinny legs makes it look like a blondi, but the colouration has thrown me!?

Looks like my post-moult T.blondi as well. Very dark with a load of red/pink hairs. It's surprising how much of a difference there is after a moult isn't it. She's beautiful.

Thats weird Jo, looks just like the time before last moult for my L Para.

Maybe it'll go more browny / orange when it hardens up fully ?!?

just got a sneak peek of my para and it has a different carapace to that in picture 1, also hasn't got a strong lined markings down the legs.

pretty little spider now though eh Jo !!
