  • Hi all

Just signed up yesterday and got round to posting today. Always had a great interest in all kinds of general invertebrates and always more so spiders of all form. Over the last couple of years I could say that I have become a little obssesed with theraphosids, so much so that I have decided that working with them is what I ideally wish to do and so have hopefully begun the proccess by getting myself on a place for a basic bsc honors in biology starting in september. (though I am a little lost on what route I should be taking after that, so any clues anyone can offer will be most appreciated)

Just aquired my first T earlier this week just a subadult G.rosea (didn't want to get involved with anything that would be tricky to keep or potentially agressive) and so far so could, although I will need to wait for a moult to see if I have got lucky with a female or not. As mentioned above I would love to work in the field of studying T's, especially in regards to communication, so If anyone can throw me some info or links etc I'll be eternally grateful.

Welcome to the most addictive hobby in the world.

I am moving to Panama so selling all my spiders.......................i still came back from the BTS with 6 new spiders all G rosea.

If you want to come over to Panama once we are settled in there is a spider colony a few minutes walk from the back door of our house, youcan come and study that for a while if you wish.

If you want to study communication then i sugest either Hysterocrates kept as a communual group in a large tank.

Hullo Rich! One piece of advice: procrastination doesn't go well with a university course. As for the route after, I'm still trying to figure that one myself.

Thanks for the welcome folks, and the tips too. (has provided some very interesting reading) If anyone out there actually works with arachnids as a career and can throw me some light on how they got involved and such it would be great too.

                Hi Rich.
Welcome to the site mate. If you want to talk to someone, Lee from the Spider Shop Wouldn't be a bad place to start but you will have to waite for him to return from Borneo. or get Colin D into the chat room. then there's
Michael Jacobi, he has a forum on Arboreal T's ther is a link on this forum. Other than that just plant a question on the forum and sit back.

                Good luck with your Studies.

after you have done the biology course you will want to move on to an entomology course (which will cover insects and other invertabrates)

i myself am looking to get qualified with T's as well, im starting a basic GCSE biology course in september and continuing on from there.
