  • Brilliant fun this morning!

Just received my parcel from Dan

I have just been putting the slings into there new enclosures...well trying!

B auratum and H lividum I couldn't ask for better well behaved slings (yes I did say H lividum!)

The P regalis was fun though.

The first one dived out the lid of it's tub before I had chance to put it down, ran down my leg, across the floor and up my mothers leg! I could not stop laughing and she was screaming! I manged to rescue the poor T from me Ma so now the T is now recovering in his new enclosure.

The 2nd regalis is sat here in a pot as it did the same and ran for it! I'm now deciding the best way to transfer it to it's enclosure!

Great fun I think. I think the Pokies are sitting there laughing at a crazy human with no control over a spider!

I'm trying to figure out if it's the T recovering in it's new enclosure or your mother recovering in her enclosure or both lol. It certainly conjured up a few different mental images.

Anyways nice pics Kain and I hope you have better luck with these.

must say you're fairly lucky neither you nor your mum was bitten though... i hear Pokies have quite nasty venom!!!

Glenn you really should mate, I got 7 slings first and tbh they scared the living daylights out of me due to the speed they came flying out of the shipping tubs!!! But after getting rid I bought an AF P. regalis from the BTS show and shes amazing to watch. Im now looking at getting another either a subfusca or ornata.

Lol,i could just imagine your mom's reaction! Mine would have attacked it with a slipper! Those pokies remind me of my Psalmopoeus cambridgei the day i got it. He shot straight up my arm twice before i managed to get him in his enclosure. It seems arboreals are faster movers than the terries! Would love a P.regalis one day but I've reached my quota now, can't have any more Ts,still, nice to dream...

I had the same problem with my P.regalis spiderlings!
I always transfer my spiders in the (empty) bath with the plug in, both containers in the empty bath. Then if the spider escapes they usually can't climb out of the bath, at least I have never had on be able to climb out of the bath!

Lol, we've had an H.lividum sling climb the bath. Luckily managed to catch him on the way down the other side though!

Mmmmmmmmm, the bath thing works 95 % of the time. Re-housed some 2" P irminia the other day..... up the bath, round the top, over a can of shaving gel etc....... 2 out of the 4 managed that feat.

What I have done in the past is get hold of a large 2'x2' clear plastic bag when transferring slings. I put this in the bath, put both containers in the bag and sort it all out like that. Spare cup on the side to catch any Steve McQueens. It's particularly good for those with less confidence or not used to "handling" (and I dont mean with bare hands for show) faster or more aggressive species as the bag gives you even more control of an escape. That way there's no wild panic and less chance of the sling losing a leg!
