I have an A geniculata and this new one doesnt have the "almost" black carapace or the stripes on the patellas. Side by side, in fact, they're quite different. photo's aren't the best of ident methods i know, i'm sorry.

i'm trudging through the BTS Theraphosidae Gallery (and others) and still keep coming back to Nhandu and more than likely coloratovillosus as the colouring is very similar to Michaels adult female, substanciated by Rays adult female picture where the patterning is correct all be it mine's a lighter colour form.

Hi Colin .. Yeps i would agree with you that it's a Nhandu coloratovillosus judging by your picture.
I often find that colours are slightly more intense when you take a picture with a flash and then load it up on the screen and i'm assuming thats the case here.

Thats absolutely true so any guess at a species ID from a picture will allways be subject to doubt....

Still, now we know what the worlds fourth most dangerous spider looks like..

          Hi Bryan,

thanks for a confirmation on my initial ident, i've browsed several of the more "reputable" sites and it's still the top runner.

Colours are within 2% (my end) any further colour difference would be due to individual monitor preferences.
Still, in general, photo ID is still rather vague, i concur.

finally, it's a vicious looking beast isn't it?

          thanks

          Colin

I remember when I first joined the BTS and was deciding on my first tarantula I e-mailed Mark with my 3 favorite options and asked his advice. This was one of the 3 options, now I remember why. Great one Colin!
