Hello,
Just a final post concerning Exotic pets. I won't go over old ground. Here's a picture of the little fellow when he arrived this morning.



If they had bothered to put air holes in the cricket tub he came in, or bothered to feed him in the past few months he might still be alive. Whether they send me a replacement or a refund, it won't bring this poor lad back. I hope they never treat a tarantula like this again.

I can't believe that (well I can as I can see the poor little so and so) but my Smithi came from EP's and he was boxed up, wrapped in tissue, vent holes in boxes, marked up etc etc and was in really good condition. The Postie could have dropped kicked the box up the path and he wouldn't have got damaged?

Perhaps they get through a lot of different staff?

He came in a cricket tub with kitchen paper, no air holes, tightly sealed with masking tape, one piece of newspaper round it and in the box. The packing wasn't the problem, sadly the problem was that he couldn't breathe and looks anorexic. I'm just glad you had a better experience than me.

Nicola thats awful , i can really relate to how angry you feel !

my T blondi is still trying to get over her posting experience . The thing that makes you angry is the fact that it didnt have to happen , its disgusting !

People have said to me " oh , its only a ******* spider !! " , it makes me mad !!!!!

People who say its only a spider better hope there's no such thing as re-incarnation. I'd hate for them to come back as a cricket!

I dont think i'll use EP anymore...how can anyone sending anything live in the post forget air holes!

T's can live for a week easy in a container with no air holes. They have very little oxygen requirements. I would easily say it's death had to do with lack of food or water. So sorry to see that happen. What are you going to do?

I've informed them I want a replacement or refund. They've been sent photos so I'm free to send the body for scientific study, I'm just waiting for conformation the photo e-mail has arrived. Then I'm goin to make sure in future that I shop elsewhere. Thanks for caring and I know other people have been fine with them, I'm just so upset about this.

His abdomen looks realy small.
My guess is, he was refusing food for quite some time. If so, without water they quickly become dehydrated.

I had one C.sp blue that was refusing food for months. Her abdomen looked just as small as one in the picture. She only drink water (regularly). Then she died when I was away for a week and she had no water.

I think we should have a list of good and crap dealers to buy from.

Name and Shame them so to speak.

You might want to check with Admin about listing good and bad dealers first.

There could be repercussions.

i'm not entirely impressed with this situation, thats my own opinion and nothing to do with the society though.

Nicola, hope you get sorted out soon and sorry about the spider.

Thanks again. I think the saddest thing is the feeding. This poor thing was supposed to be checked over and kept by Exotic pets first before shipment. He wasn't even mature, so should have been eating like a horse. If he was ill, what on earth were they doing posting him to anyone? Its a life lesson I'm not happy learning.

Kain, if you take a look in the thread on online resources you will find a link to the Tarantula store forum where they have a thread just like the one you proposed, bear in mind though that there can be justification for a problem or negative experience & this may be resolved amicably & it is this resolution which MAY not get posted thus leading to a permanent black mark against a dealer's name.
