  • Calling all Avic Experts!

    Hi All

Just a quick question regarding my Avic avic sling.
I've had him for 5 weeks now and he still hasnt molted? Is this normal?
I hear Avics molt regularly, as do all slings anyway. I wouldn't normally be too concerned but he has all the signs a molt is due for a while now, darkening legs, lost interest in feeding, slow and clumsy. Is molting a long and drawn out affair and im panicing for nothing?
I would like to check with you guys that its not a temp/humidity problem.
I keep him at a temp of 70'c and a humidity level of around 75-80%. Are these ok as i have read so many contradicting articles about the perfect temps etc.
    Please help and thank you!

    Hi Colin!

Hardly an expert, but here goes...

Temps and humidity are fine for your little guy, but do bear in mind 'ventilation', which is often pushed onto the back burner. Make sure there is decent air movement and your avic should be fine.

Find out from the seller when he last moulted if you like, but there's very little you can do, either way, other than wait.

    It'll be worth it, though..!

      Hi Paul
      Thanks for the quick responce.
I got the little guy from Exotic pets by mail order, and those guy are hard to get hold of for any after sales care. (no phone number is one example )
Ventilation is not a problem, infact it was a big hassle trying to get the humidity sorted coz there is sooo much ventilation!
Good to know you think my humid/temp is ok though...thats one less worry! Thanks!

        No prob, mate.

Our little community has lost a fair number of Avics, particularly versicolor, in the last year, but now that ventilation has been addressed, all seems normal.

You're very fortunate to find an A. avicularia sling. We've not had any for sale in over a year over here..!

        Enjoy your fellow -
