    Bad week: a death in the family

    I am so gutted...i went to tend to my animals last night, and noticed my suntiger sitting motionless, even when i misted her. i took the lid off, and she was definitely dead.
    she was only young, there were no signs of injury.
    my best guess is that i had some sphagnum moss in the tank a few weeks ago, and i noticed it got mouldy and took it out right away! it may have been too late for the girl, though.

              So sorry to here of your loss James. At least she had a happy life munching on crickets and sitting around.
              "If you play with fire you'll get burned". Well I keep tarantulas so does that mean I'm going to get bitten even if I'm ultra-super-careful?

                  thanks for the kind words...yeah i'll get another suntiger or two, definitely. it's a shame, but hopefully i can learn from this.
                  i realise that they as arboreals need humidity and ventilation. i was misting maybe twice daily, and it was one of those plastic cages with the ventilated top. it was next to a heatmat as well. does that sound like the right environment, or does anyone have any suggestions for the next attempt?

                  on top of this, i also had another death...a P. imperator. i believe it was the oldest one i had though, and she had lasted a long time, so i don't believe i failed her in any way. sad, but at least the colony lives on.

                    arg! more death! another Emperor and the solifugid! gutted.
                    moved the Emperors into a new tank, so hopefully will cut down on anything infectious... i still have 5, and they're all quite extroverted, so i guess they're ok.
                    the solifugid was eaten by a cricket!!!!

                    but i had some good news, one of my G. rosea's moulted successfully and is sporting a colourful new skin.
                    the boa also shed last week...not the best shed in the world, but still seems in good spirits.
