hi there all,scott here again.....my visit yesterday to my local reptile/spider shop saw me leaving with not only my normal supply of crickets and locust but a new addition to my collection....all ive been told is its a blue burmese and im not familiar with that type,its an evil little thing quite blueish on the legs with coppery carapace,has anyone any info that might help me?????

Hi Scott, Burmese Blue was one of the common names given to Haplopelma lividum in the past, so this is most likely what you have, but common names can be very misleading & can also be used unscrupulously to add a new angle to an already familiar animal!

thanks spider shop....i spoke to chris at my local shop where i bought it and mentioned that it could be a cobalt blue but he didnt agree saying it was definately supplied to him as a blue burma????when i dare get close enough to take some pictures of it i will post them at the moment its got a worse attitude than my goliath so it may take some time!!all those moments will be lost in time.....like tears........in rain

Well there you go - that's the problem with common names!! cobalt blue, Burmese blue - same spider; Haplopelma lividum. If you wanted to you could call it the the coppery carapaced blue - it would still be Hapopelma lividum.
Hope there aren't any unscrupulous dealers out there - we'll be seeing the coppery carapaced blue out there any day now..........sigpic
