I can see what Jay is saying, that experienced tarantula keepers who have been keeping tarantulas for many years will get very bored of the same sort of threads appearing every few days and will want somewhere to go and discuss more advanced topics with keepers of the same experience level as them. I think that if they want somewhere like that then there is really no reason why they shouldn't have one because I doubt any of them would segregate themselves from Newbies. Being a Newbie myself I know that we just want to get involved and learn as much as we can about these fascinating creatures so that we can give them the special care they deserve.

"If you play with fire you'll get burned". Well I keep tarantulas so does that mean I'm going to get bitten even if I'm ultra-super-careful?

    Short Answer: Yes (I have)(twice!!)(off a G.Rosea!!)

Mark, I totally agree with Colin, you do an excellent job with the forum. I have learned a lot over the last few months here. I come here because I know that if I have a question I wont be ridiculed, I get an educated answer without all the smart assed comments.

I have looked at other forums and even joined a couple but if I have any worries, ideas or even plain silly questions, I know I will get a sensible answer here.

This is an excellent forum. Dont let it get you down. Your hard work is very much appreciated

Well said Elaine, I totally agree. When I posted about substrate for G.rosea the answer were quick and very useful. Mark you should be very proud because this is a very good forum.

The whole BTS team do a fantastic job - from the forums, to the web site, to the BTS show. I think we often forget that there is a team of people behind it when were rattling on about substrates, humidity and molts!
Without the hard work of the BTS committee, none of this would be possible.

          3 cheers anyone???

          Hip Hip ...............................

Sam, I wouldn't care if everyday a new person asked a relevant question - if I was around I would always try and answer (if I knew the answer!) I like to help answering questions as I know many of the members, who are far more experienced than me do. I only get bored of what I lovingly named nonsense threads. New slings being delivered, and another successful molt, etc. They are statements and not questions. I just think they dilute the relevance of the forums.

I knew I was going to start an interesting debate when I answered Marks first thread late last night!!!!

          Sorry Mark.

HORRAY!!!!!!! (just adding to Jay's 3 cheers)

            Jay
I have thought a lot about your posts today and I agree that sometimes the moults, new spiders etc takes over a bit. I do sometimes hope it will spark a discussion on the species or conditions that moults occur but tend not to ask. Perhaps I should ask and maybe get a discussion going that will intrest new and old hobbyists alike.

At the moment I'm really interested in identification and the reason for that is my B. vagans that may not be a B. vagans but perhaps a hybrid. There is very little info out there that can be understood by a newbie. That could be a discussion and learning experience alike.

Personally I'm glad you brought it up in your original post as it gives us all something to think about and also a chance to air our thoughts or opinions and may well kickstart some great discussions. We can all benefit from that.

Thought I'd mention that this is the best thread I've seen in a while. As for the issue of new member threads (moults etc.) I rather like them. It reminds me of when I was new to the hobby (I still am really). I think you can't beat enthusiasm but following Jay's point the more 'scientific' stuff is good too. I just feel its better to keep everything in one place like it is now so we don't run the risk of 'specialist' and forums developing over time where some other forums suffer (now I'm going for my tin hat!).

Keep up the great work Mark.
