  • B. vagans

Since I mentioned this on another thread, I thought I should just ask outright

The pic below is my 3 inch B. vagans. I have noticed that the abdomenal hair that should be red are really a pale redish/blonde. The carapace also looks to be a different colour (slighly paler) than photo's I have found on the net where the carapace is black with a lighter band around the edge. Is this normal or is it possible I have a hybrid?

    Elaine,

Looking at the pic, it's colours and it's long hairs on its legs - it looks more like a juvenile B.Albopilosa? I have 4 or 5 that look a similar size and colour.

It's difficult to get an accurate view though due to the flash bleaching colours - you will have a better idea in another 2 or 3 molts.

      Thanks Jay

I found a pic here http://www.bighairyspiders.com/pix/curly3.jpg that does look like my little guy.

He recently moulted so I may be in for a long wait lol. I will take more pics after next moult.

Looks a bit like my bros B.albopilosa too though yours is darker but has hairier legs than a B. vagan. Just looked in google and it came up with a couple of B.albopilosa x B.vagans hybrids the pic was small though. Maybe its one of those???
Heres my bros juvey B. albopilosa in its new coat.I think there's a slight difference.
Sorry for poor image quality. This is the colour it is in daylight.

And this is with a flash so the colour is different.
