I was just looking at my G.rosea a few seconds ago and I noticed a small insect only just visible wandering across the lid of the cage. It was a very light brown colour. I'm wondering is it mites???. And if so what the hell do I do about them???.

A small brownish insect wandering across the glass you say Sam....well that could be anything mate.....which is not a lot of help i know.
Check your rosea closely and look around her mouth parts, on top og her carapace and at the sockets where the legs join the body.
If you can't see anything there (and you'll really want to look with a x10 loupe) then there's probably nothing to worry about mate.
If on the chance you can see some very small light coloured roundish insects then they'll be mite's and they'll probably be there because you've got the enviroment either to damp or not enough air circulation plus there's maybe remains of food on the substrate. If this is the case then a clean up and dry out is in order.

Thanks Bryan I will do that as soon as possible.I don't know if it's relevant but over the last few weeks a hell of a lot of flies seem to be coming into the house which is really starting to irritate me as you would expect."If you play with fire you'll get burned". Well I keep tarantulas so does that mean I'm going to get bitten even if I'm ultra-super-careful?
Short Answer: Yes (I have)(twice!!)(off a G.Rosea!!)

Mites
Hi everyone
I suddenly had an outbreak of mites. They are white and very small. I Looked at it under the microscope for conformation and yip it is. Its fairly hot and humid at the moment in South Africa which may contribute to it. I also bought a couple of new T`s and I think they or their containers were infected. I cannot see any mites on the spiders at all and they are only in the slings containers with high humidity and are attracted to water. If you leave a bowl of water outside they fload it within hours.
How do I get rid of them ? I must relocate all the slings but how do I prevent the mites from coming back ? Are these mites in any way harmfull to humans ?
Any advise would be appreciatedA.geniculata, B.smithi, B.auratum, B.albopiulosum, B.vagans, B.klaasi, B.emilia, B.boehmei, H.lividum, H.minax, S.calceatum, A.versicolor, C.crawshayi, L.parahybana, A.seemanii, P.striata, P.ornata, P.regalis, P.irminia, P.cambridgei, C.shioedtei, P.murinus, G.aureostratum, Harpactira sp.
