I have been using an oil filled heater for a while now with no problems at all. I find that it dosn't dry the air as much as some other heaters. It can get pretty cold in the basement and this heater has worked like a charm.

thanks for that, Chris! that may be the cheaper (in the long run) option to get through the rest of winter. could experiment more with heat mat placement (ie putting them above tanks) if i had a more reliable ambient temperature.Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars...
