Last weekend i went to help rehouse some pokies for some friends and in return i was given the following, A/F Avicularia "Peru Purple" Poecilotheria Miranda Spiderling Unknown Tarantula sp?? possibly Cyclosternum Sp???
I can tell you a bit about the two I've kept but not much else. The male, before maturing, was just like other juve Poecilotheria but after he was never still. Certainly the most active spider I've ever kept. Grew to14cm only.
The female I bought mature and is not just under 7 inches, having just moulted. When they moult the black bits go 'really' black like ink and they look stunning. Of all the Poecilotheria I've kept (7 species so far) P. miranda look the most challenging but in fact are really shy and gentle. However like all Poecilotheria don't upset one. Another thing which amazed me is fang size. I've owned an adult male P. ornata before so I'm familiar with large spiders (a little) but on getting the female P miranda's shed skin today from last week's moult I noted her fangs were (pre-moult) 1cm long each. I've thought of re-naming her "sabre-tooth" but it would be unfair as she's so timid. Very stocky though compared to other Pokies I've seen. Hope this helps.
thanks for that bit of info nicola very informative , i have 7 species of poecilotheria too at the moment . (trying to get them all hehe ) i think there a beautifull species of spider,
I wouldn't mind them all either! Sadly my P. metallica and P. ornata passed away earlier in the year so I'm down to 5 species now. I've had two more adults moult this past week though, a P. subfusca and P. formosa. Thing is I bought my weekly stock of crickets today and there's little to eat them, they're all moulting! Its like the calm before the storm here!Well there's my Ceratogyrus but she's only just started after her moult so I'm going easy with her. Good luck!
sigpicHate is for people who find thinking a little too complicated!
