  • L, parahybana male - Maturity Question

    Hello all

    Long time no post!

Been a rollercoaster of a couple of months for me and I currently only have access to 'tinternet' in work.

    Hope all are well though?

    Right, to the point.

I only have one spider in my collection at the moment (Yeah, quite a step back from over 50!)

It's a male L, parahybana. And the reason I know it's male is following the last moult. I can see the tibial(?) spurs and the 'boxing gloves'.

Now I just wanted to know, when can I tell he's fully mature. Is it now? Or does he have another moult or more to go through yet?

Can someone knowledgable help me out please?

Hi sweetheart, nice to see you back posting again.

Mature male eh,... are you thinking of lending him out or are you going to have a bash at breeding and buy a female?

        Well...

I'd be happy to do either really. If anybody is interested in his 'services', then he's available. But similarly, if anyone has an adult female for sale, let me know.

When will I know if and when he's made a sperm web, and what triggers this?

And it's GREAT to be back!

          Hi Jo

In my experience they make the web when they feel there's little chance of them being disturbed (most of mine at night time, and i've only caught them in the act through chance viewing)

In the morning there's little evidence that they ever constructed such a web too.

He may have already had the instinct to make one and store the sperm.
I normally place his cage next to a female and let a little communication take place to give him the push if he hasn't already prepared himself.

Well, he's on a shelf right next to my bed, so he can see me if that counts? Ha ha!

Although that tends only to give them a push int he opposite direction!

Your "interactivity" COULD start with the Newark Show.

                  You up for it?
