hi all, back to my Goliath........that's the 1st time Ive heard of power feeding and im not sure its a good thing to be doing,my concern with my own Goliath was how much should she normally be eating and having read some of the threads on here im going to cut down on what she gets,we all get to know our own spiders and my Goliath seems to show some intelligence when it comes to when shes hungry, she will wait head 1st at the burrow entrance and if i offer her food she will take it immediately but if shes not hungry will have her abdomen ready at the entrance ready to kick hairs at any disturbance outside,i do believe she knows where her food comes from and knows thats if she sits in the right place she wont have to wait for long,am i being stupid??? i know she is just showing normal natural behaviour by waiting at the entrance but hey maybe shes not so stupid after all
all those moments will be lost in time.....like tears........in rain

This is one of the age old debates Scott....whether instinct or intelligence (of a sort) can be attributed to animal behaviour.

on similar lines (though i never experienced this myself but it came from a reliable source)
a chap experimented with a scorpion (not sure which).
what he did was use a tuning fork next to the tank (not touching it) just before he popped a prekilled cricket in a food bowl in the scorps tank.
after several weeks of doing this he would use the tuning fork, the scorp would come out of its hide (whatever time of day it was) and go to the food bowl. if there was nothing in there it would wait untill he dropped the item in.
my immediate thought was the scorp was disturbed by the lid coming off the tank (or however he opened it) and it wasn't the tuning fork but apparently there was no lid.

tall tale or not, it's still something to ponder
