              Hi Gary, welcome

We seem to be revisiting the "common names confusion" scenario again

using permiatations of the common name you've given, you could have either

a Cyclosternum fasciatum - Costa Rican Tiger Rump
or a Haplopelma longipes - Vietnamese Tiger
or one of several others such as a Haplopelma sp. - Black Tiger Striped
try looking for the first two scientific names on google and match the pictures if you can, then look for care sheets on the result or ask here for general care

              Colin

                  vietnamese black tiger

I have discovered the exact common name for my spider as a vietnamese tiger rump, still cannot seem to get any info/care sheets. She is so facinating to watch though. She loves to explore and especially try to climb, still very aggresive.

                    Gary,
You really need to find out the scientific name for your spider if you can, that way you will be able to track down the info you require.

If you have a camera available, post a picture of your spider on here and we'll try and ID it and place you in the right direction for maintaining it in captivity.

agreed...you can never have an "exact" common name.
today, i was exposed to such travesties as Antilles giant bird eater and Chile metalli green thingy during an email conversation with a friend.
needless to say, i had no idea what on God's green earth he was talking about!!!
if you have the Latin scientific name, you can enter it into the Google toolbar and Bob's your uncle!

Learning the latin names is hard going though. I'm getting there now, but only with the T's that I happen to have. It's important to know the latin name however as most species can have multiple common names. I got very confused with the Nhandu Colloratovilosum and the A.Geniculata. They look quite similar to each other and have similar common names. Also, like on here, very few people refer to their T's by the common name, so if your relatively new, like me, then it's hard to work out what is what.

i completely understand. i started with the common names, too. you do pick up the Latin scientific quickly though, if not the pronunciation (i have been met with blank stares trying to ask for Psalmopoeus cambridgeis when i didn't know how to say it...and i'd forgotten the common name at the time!).
i was lucky to have a good Tarantula book (Tarantulas and other Arachnids by Samuel D Marshall) that listed both the usual common names and the Latin scientific, so a painless way to get used to it. it also had great pictures which has proven helpful...still read that book to lust after new species for my collection!

just a little hint for those of you trying to catch on to the latin names, in latin 'c' is never pronounced 's', and if you have a vowel followed by an 'e' then it normally makes it sound capital e.g. 'Caecilius' which is a Roman name is pronounced 'k-I-kill-e-u-s', or one we all no (i think) Pompae in Italy is pronounced 'pom-pay'.
