yes, he has some fascinating animals. he tells me the animals aren't kept at his house, though, so probably best to order via an email first

oh my goodness, i've just finished reading that Good Heavens, Holy Cow!
      fantastic!
such acerbic yet benevolent wit...though unfortunately it would all be lost on such a sad addition to the gene pool as that "John Doe"
i think it's hilarious how the only words this chap was able to spell correctly were the very Latin scientific names he was annoyed about! he even got Brachypelma albopilosum right, and that's one i struggled with for ages!
the only problem, Stanley, is that you credited him at one point with the ability to string letters together in their correct order lol!

So...I'd like to ask Stanley: do you ever plan to write a brightly coloured, simple picture book with pop-up pages for *unwilling* readers?!! ...

... Sir, you get a standing ovation for your razor wits and brilliant commentary insertions, I couldn't breathe for laughing!

In truth I had almost completely forgotten that episode. I don't remember the exact circumstances, except that I was a bit miffed at some ongoing flame war or another at the time. I'm not even certain that I wasn't one of the participants!

Anyway, when I received that gentleman's posting I began a really acidic reply and quickly decided it was a good time to set the matter aside so I could calm down. Several days later I stumbled upon the project again, deleted what I'd done previously and started anew. Even then I had some trouble controlling myself. I can tolerate ignorance because ignorance can be cured with a little education. Quite apparently, I can't do so well with rank stupidity. I guess that when you're really stupid, you're stupid for a long time.

In North America we have a number of TV programs that are court (in the legal sense) based. They revolve around a system of petty justice called "small claims court" where there are severe limits on the amount one can sue for and lawyers are never used. Perhaps the epitome of these TV programs is called "Judge Judy." The judge is a real live judge by the name of Judith Sheindlin, and while I firmly believe that the women isn't taking anywhere near enough Prosac, I do occasionally find her amusing. I quote Judge Judy: "Beauty fades. Dumb is forever." (In fact, she wrote a book by that title.)

A worthy revisit to an interesting thread.

I was curious as to whether there had been any development on Stan's search, or whether we'd read further developments in the 3rd edition of his excellent book.

I finally took the time to read the pdf in full last night, incredulous, although I rather suspect the 14 year old teenager he replies to is actually himself. Either that or its a complete wind-up! His case might be a little stronger if he had a better command of the English language. But his reluctance to say, as opposed to post, the terms is quite laughable.
Makes a great read, even the wife was left "speechless".

Veni, vidi, I couldn't be bothered

            Hi Stanley
We get the re-runs of Judge Judy over hear I agree more prosac would help no end she can be a bit hyper. it amazes me that people can take issue over the smallest thing and follow it through to court for just a few dollars of damages, people should chill out life is to short.

"Why should i have to learn Latin its a dead language" whats wrong with just calling anything hairy with eight legs a spider Te He
I enjoyed reading holy cow it gave me a good laugh, very well put after all if you are interested enough in tarantulas to keep them you could at least try to give them the correct name.

            All the best

            Clint
