  • Help identifying spider

    Hello,
I saw a tarantula pic on this site a couple of days ago that looked really good but now I can't find it anymore or remember what it was called.
I was hoping somebody with a lot of experience of differnt species might be able to help.
This Tarantula is black with yellow or gold markings. The rump of this tarantula has got stripes very similar to the tiger rump T. but in yellow.

    Anybody know this species?

flippin' 'eck, Guy! i hadn't heard of that one before, but it's gorgeous!

Tom, i'm looking at a picture of a Heterothele villosella at the mo, and it has gold markings. not perhaps as striped as you want though.

or how about the Holothele incei? http://www.spidy.goliathus.com/holot...cei-id292.html

not that black in either case, but golden at least?

          Thx for input

          Hello ppl,
          thx so much for replying.

James, good thinking but fraid not the one.

Mark, I have spent alot of time looking through that gallery but there are sooo many of them. I hardly got through 1/4 of them.
Noticed most of them were posted by Guy.

Guy, thx for replying, I was hoping you would . You have a very nice collection.

Although that is not the one, it does look stunning. It is probably even nicer looking than the one I was looking for. Do you have one of them?

My search will continue, I am suspecting it would be hard getting either of these species however, they seem rare

          See you round the board,
          Tom

don't despair, it's bound to show up again! just try your best to fix the image in your head, so you don't forget.

Guy used to keep them (because I tried to buy one off him ages ago, but was sadly usurped by someone quicker)

              H. triseriatus do seem to be quite rare, however there are some that I know of over in mainland Europe, and they were recently on one dealer's list over there. May still be. However I would be very cautious about buying one sight unseen.

                  Hi Ray,
that looks nearly like the one. Do you know what that one is called.

The one I saw had black legs and gold knees, a black carapace with a gold furry fringe all around it and then pretty much the pattern of the one you have showed us on the rump.

The gold fringe on the the carapace really stood out on it.

                    Hello again,
I have constantly been browsing pictures of T's to see if I could spot the picture I saw a long time ago now.
Unfortunately no luck so far but I have been able to find pretty close matches.

I'm still confused as to what sp. stands for in a spiders name. They all seem to be holethele sp. or avicularia sp. Any1 know, I've had enogh of looking at sp. and not knowing what it stands for...

At first I thought I wouldn't get any closer than the first pic, but then today I found another variant, the columbia sp.

                    Have a look.

PS: These are not my own pictures.

The first picture can be found at http://www.atshq.org/forum/showthread.php?t=797&page=2

                    the second is from http://www.tarantulacanada.ca/English/English.htm

                      Hello Tom,

sp. is simply a shortened reference for 'species'.
The two pics attached (did you ask permission from the pic owners before posting these btw?) are Holothele sp.
