  • New to Tarantulas, new to forums!

Hi there, hope I am getting this right (?) I thought I would take the (advised!) opportunity to introduce myself.

As is evident, my name is Tracy and my husband and I are about to take delivery of our first tarantula, a Chilean rose, due this Thursday.

Not only am I going to be a new 'owner' but I am also a new forum user (computer literate, but have never before got into the forum scene) so plaese feel free to help me out with the correct ettiqute! as well as any advice on the early days with a new T.

          Hi Tracy,
Well you're getting a Tarantula so you're on the right forum and as far as ettiquette goes...that's a very polite, well constructed first post.

          Think you've cracked it !!!!

Welcome aboard, any questions no matter how insignificant they seem please ask.
Dont forget to have a good look around the forum and run through the beginners guides available on here.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!

No Louise, no names ideas yet, my husband teaches so we thought of canvassing his 6th form..

My little guy is arriving in the post to my work place (some colleagues are not best pleased) random Q, will it be obvious to all that my 'package' contains a spider and are there any unpacking instructions that I should keep in mind (at arms length, applies I assume)?

I'm sure the 6th formers will come up with something amusing, Tracy!!

You'll have all of your workmates paranoid for the day...but the little spidey will be safe and sound in a sealed tub within the outer box anyways, so I shouldn't think anyone will notice....unless you let it out!
When you get it home just place the little box into its tank and remove the lid, you can then either leave it to decide that it wants to explore of its own accord, or give a steady nudge on the rear end with a small paintbrush to encourage it to get out.

Hi and welcome. No the packages are usually not labelled. I had one delivered to work, which is a Supermarket, and the till girls signed for it, only they guessed what was inside and stood well back lol. Sometimes I take a T in and pop it in the canteen ( in its tank ), it disrupts the whole day, every one keeps nipping out the back to see what its up to.
But the meanest thing I did was the green grocer is scared of spiders and we took an adult Rosie molt and put it in the bananas before opening time. Then we all clustered in the managers office watching the CTV to see what happened. He jumped so high, it was so funny and on tape too. But it cost me 2 cheese twists for his tea-break.
