  • weak P imperator

i have several P imperators, as some know. I've lost a couple in the past few months, chalking it up to old age, as they were quite big.
i have one now, who still has a bit of energy, but seems to have no strength in her tail whatsoever. she is probably 6 inches from head to sting, stretched out, so quite big. she also is fat, in a rather suspect way: i can see small pale shapes beneath the skin.
i have put her on her own with a locust, hoping she does what needs to be done, but i'm wondering is there any hope for her? her tail is in fact completely limp.
    also, could she be gravid?
i really don't want her to die, if i can help it! i've lost too many lately, already!

Hmmm, lethargy, plump, pale shapes under the skin (good eyesight mate!!)

Methinks you may be in for the patter of tiny tarsus.

Tip - offer quite high protien dead food so she can easily feed (imperators seem to scavenge more than actively hunt when gravid i've found) dead food items won't spook her either.

thanks Colin...she seems so weak, i'm not sure if i should be optimistic. i REALLY hope so. i have been wanting imperator babies since i started keeping them a few years back!
i shall try to hook her up with something meaty. would a cut up mouse do the trick?

Just very similar "symptoms" to when my lot have produced young,
meat will give a good amount of protein,

much appreciated, Colin. i'd better get her something to nibble and leave her in as much peace as i can.
i wish i knew how long to wait, but that would require knowing how long she's been gestating, if that is the case.

Up to 15 months has been known for "gestation"
They just seem to produce when they're ready and the conditions are right

cool, i've just given her a mouse with its vicera exposed, hoping she tucks in.
i'll keep this updated either way.

Don't forget to chuck a load of woodies in there to clean up after her, meats a magnet for bacteria.
Keep her a little more humid too - waterbowl overflowed a little extra.

                  sure thing.
but i think she's on the way out. as far as i can tell, she hasn't eaten anything, and her movements are weaker than before.
