  • Glasgow Andrew Has A Question

    Hi there again,
I have been looking at buying vivariums, heat mats ect. on-line, I have found a site and the prices are very good, well compared to pet shops anyways. I was wondering if anyone has used www.888reptiles.co.uk and if so has there experience been a good one. Thanks you guys.

    OUCH !!!!

Their prices are a bit on the high side

The Spider and Scorpion Starter Kit includes:

    • Perfecto Vivarium (40 x 20 x 25 cm)
    • Cobra Heat Mat
    • Thermometer
    • Substrate
    • Natural Shelter
    • Water Bowl
    • Comprehensive spider booklet
    All this for £49.95 ?!!!!!!!

In my not so humble opinion you can do a lot better than this

Heatmats .... ebay.co.uk for about £4.00 ......http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Reptile-Vivari...QQcmdZViewItem If you are comfortable in a shirt then the spider will be OK.
Thermometer.... probably a stick on .... almost useless (what would you expect for £1.95)
Substrate ...Go to B & Q and spend £3 on a sack of peat
Natural shelter...... Looking at their range of small shelters ...they aint natural. Half a terra cotta plant pot looks good and used by many people or go to a pet shop and PICK your own piece of cork bark NOT a piece that someone has picked for you.
Water bowl ... Any pet shop for £0. 95p
Comprehensive spider BOOKLET ..... Yeah right. Get a proper book like The Tarantula Keeper's Guide by Stanley (A member of this site) [ame="http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/0764100769/ref=dp_olp_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1200414111&sr=1-2"]Amazon.co.uk: Used and New: The Tarantula Keeper's Guide[/ame] Prices start at £4.29
Vivarium .... This can be as cheap or expensive as your wallet allows. From £5 to £50. From a plastic Penpal to a small Exo-Terra, the choice is yours.

you can go even cheaper! the lid of a plastic jar can be an easy water dish, a hide can be pretty much anything! just look for things with a rounded shape and space under, cut an entrance if you need to.
go to a pound shop or Woolworth's for cheap, clear, large tubs (or small if you're getting a sling)
as for heat mats, any temperature you're comfortable in should be fine for the T's. i use heat mats because my house temperature isn't that constant or reliable, but if you can keep it around 25 C your T's will be fine, in most cases.
