  • Hey all, got new babies

It's been a few days since a really posted anything. This past weekend we had our local T meeting here in eastern Nebraska. One of the guy brought a sac to open at the meeting. It was 30 days old.

He carefully opened a flap, and babies came pouring out!!!!! They were little 1st instars. OMG...soooo cute!!!!!!!

Every one at the meeting got to take home their choice of number. I took four.

    What are they????? L. parahybana.

So, now I have 16 Ts.

Nice. I recently got a little parahybana sling myself. Got to see it for 2 days before it buried itself. Oh well hopefully when it starts to match up to its monster reputation it will get a bit less shy.

that sounds a wonderful sight, I'm a little too new and cautious of breeding, even taking on such a young sling scares me

      Nice addition though.

I would be in the same state of mind if I hadn't gotten my C fasciatum as a 1st instar from our club president. He is a very patient man, who always made time for the slew of questions I would PM his way! That little white fasciatum spec is now a 3d instar, in pre-molt to become a 4th. It's got color now!

Can't wait til my little para specs molt to 2ds, then I can start feeding them. What fun!!

How big is yours Kate?? My 1st instars are maybe a 1/8 inch at most.

About 1cm legspan, so just under 0.5". I don't know what instar that is? Your guys are teeeeeny. What do you feed something that small?

With my fasciatum, I started with cricket thighs after it reached 2d instar , so I will be doing the same for these kids. I basically took a small cricket going to one of the bigger slings, and removed a jumping leg. Nothing like fresh off the cricket!!

I waited until 3d instar to try live food on the fasciatum. So again, I will follow that plan with the paras.

(Instar; # of times a spider has molted after the eggs w/ legs stage. So, a 1st instar has molted one time, etc.)
