  • Problem moult

Woke this morning to ind my G.Rosea NCF has moulted (good times). However The carapace and abdomen skin are stuck but a small thread to the spiders current "new" abdomen (bad times). I wasn't too concerned and reached for the tweezers to offer some gentle assistance, however the spider decided that coming near it was a no go, and so has skittered into the burrow.

Since I can get hold of it neatly and am concerned with trying to grab the spider while the new skin hardens, I resorted to heavily increasing the humidity with some misting.

Will this likely be enough to allow the spider to kick free the last bit of old skin, or am I likely to have to conduct a capture and assist on this one?

leave it till it hardens say a week - 10 days and then see what has happened.

remember moulting is a "stressfull" time for a spider

Well all is good, came home from work to find a nice fresh T, minus the loose bit of skin. Either the misting helped or induced a bout of flicking in anger to shake it loose.

On the bright side, I don't see any boxing gloves. Considering it was a sub adult back in august when purchased, I might have found myself a nice NCF female.

I would open out the old skin and such to get some pictures, however "she" has kept it all in the burrow so it will probably have dried to destruction by the time I get a look in.
