my initial guess woud be brachypelma emilia, klaasi or bohemi.
But then again the a. bicoloratum looks exactly like that picture, I just wasn't familiar with it yet.

I ask the question because some people I know have said that it's a brachypelma. They have just filled me head with doubt because I know they look alike but I can't tell the diff between them!Comment

My A. Bicoloratum gang have black chelicerae, and the legs aren't as fluffy looking...although the carapace is the same colour, my guys also don't have a deeper orange *flame* at the top of the joint. Hmmmm...I'll wait for my largest girl Phoebe to show herself and post a photo for ya.

For the ease of things...
Top pic of the thread; that's one of my Bicoloratum gang...also in that batch are photos of B.Emilia, and then further down B.Klaasi moults...at least you get some kind of view.Comment

What sex is your spider? Do you have a moult to look at?
If it is a female and you have a moult here is something to look for.
In A.bicoloratum the spermatheca is a paired structure like so:-
But in B.boehmei the structure is fused like so:-
Couple of other things that could help is that B.boehmei grow to be bigger than A.bicoloratum being that A.bicoloratum seem to max out as a norm of around 4-5 inches leg span, where as B.boehmei can get way bigger. Also the legs on A.bicoloratum have a more slender appearince when compared to B.boehmei.
Males once mature, on the other hand are quite easy to tell apart from one another being that A.bicoloratum mature male moult out to be an overall dark brown/black in colour with hardly if any colour on the legs, where as mature males of B.boehmei tend to look much like the females only much more vibrant in colour.
I would also suspect that if you had both specimens side by side you could tell alot from the carapace shape also.
Oh yeah by looking at the trochanter and inner side of the femur of leg I you can see if it has long featherlike hairs. If it has this then it is B.boehmei as this is if I recal a main telling point between the genus of Brachypelma and Aphonopelma . (I think this is right?).
