  • B. Smithi incoming.

I've finally decided to go for a juvenile B. smithi rather than the adult G. rosea I was initially going to go for. I've just ordered one from tarantulashop dot co dot UK. So on Monday I'll be getting a little home prepared for my new arrival. I'm just going to use a small plastic container to start with and then transfer to an Exo Terra 30cm cubed when it gets a bit larger. Pics to follow

Well today is my day off and I should really be getting on with preparing our back bedroom and dismantling the furniture for our new arrival in Jun. However, I have been busy preparing another house for another arrival (when will Thursday arrive!!! ). Just need something to make it a home.

I think I could give Barratt Homes a run for their money!!

Will you post some pics of your new arrival when he/she comes? I have a really tiny B.smithi sling and can't wait for it to get some colour to it. I liked what you said about giving Barrett Homes a run for their money.

Love the tub, nice and cosy for your new arrival. I'm wishing your delivery day to hurry up and arrive. Good luck...and of course...don't forget to show your new baby off when she/he arrives.

Hey Andrew that looks quite big, mine is only 10x10cm (should it be bigger?!) Nicely set up though; can three cm juveniles drink from a water dish already????

                Cheers,
                Rich!

If you keep that water dish ( i use those milk tops myself) then fill it level with some pea gravel (cleaned of course) then fill with fresh water just under the level of the gravel.
You may find you need a few more ventilation holes in the top as the substrate still looks a little damp (and you'll have water in there as well)
Apart from that i think it will serve the purpose well.

Nice choice of box Andrew , those 'lock and lock' boxes come in all shapes and sizes. We have several different ones here - round tall fat ones with Poecs in, round tall thin ones with a Haplopelma in, and 3 large squat ones with a H 'gigas' and 2 G mollicoma in.

Well Smiffy (or Smiffella if its a girl) arrived today. The packaging was excellent for anyone wishing to use tarantulatshop.com and Darren's communications were spot on. I had a few queries and he sorted them instantly (literally!).

I took Colin's advice and put in some more ventilation holes and hopefully removed some more of the moisture over the past 48 hours. I just hope my little un likes it.

When I opened the packaging, I don't know who was more excited, my almost 4 year old James, my wife or me. But there was smiles all round and James declared Smiffy as being really cute.

We settled on Smiffy (as in the Bash Street Kids and a play on B. smithi) even though James wanted to call it Hamhead!?

Anyway, I'm off to stare a bit longer.
