  • Nephila sp. Tanzania spiderlings

Has anybody had much success rearing Nephila spiderlings? I have had some eggsacs produced by wc gravid females and they are beginning to hatch. If anybody has any information then i would be really grateful.

Nephila spiderlings can be quite hardy and easy to rear IMO. Just put each one into a pot large enough for them to build their first web and feed using fruit flies. Spray lightly on a regular basis and you shouldn't have too many problems. Move them into larger cages as they grow, obviously, but just place the old opened container inside the new larger one and let the spider move out in it's own time. A few twigs in the new enclosure will help.

Speaking from experience they tend to be so numerous they get everywhere and accumulate in mass webs under the ledges above window sills about a day after the escape - don't look up!

Also the spiderlings are really fragile and tend to 'smudge' if handled much.

I know this is not great advise but I was pretty young when I kept Nephila and these are pitfalls that should be avoided...

Yep they are, and they are great!

Absolutely monstrous/beautiful depending on your mentality. and docile too.
