    Hi friends

just to know if there is a law to have the right to keep tarantulas in England and in USA. In France, to get this animals and all animals considered like dangerous and non pets, you must get the certificate of capacity , no the same in Engalnd and in USA?

    best regards

    Bonjour JM,

Here in England we can purchase and keep most exotic animals without the need for a certificate of competance or capacity.
We have a DWA list (dangerous wild animals) that lists certain genus and species where a certificate is needed to keep these animals privately.
    Link here http://www.defra.gov.uk/wildlife-cou...animallist.pdf

    J'espère que cela vous aide

To my knowledge the US does not have any laws specifically restricting the keeping of tarantulas. You just buy one at the pet store an it is yours. Some states have laws restricting no-native species, like in Florida you cannot keep any non-native roach species, but I don't believe anyone has restrictions on tarantulas, yet.

Is this just regarding escape and infestation KJ, or is there an issue of harbouring non native disease?

              hello JM,
in the USA the laws on keeping tarantulas and other exotic pets differ from state to state.where i currently live its illegal for pet stores to sell tarantulas, scorpions or other venomous animals.while its illegal for stores to sell them to my knowledge its legal to keep them here.most of the country seems to allow the keeping and sales of spiders but in some places like newyork city there are laws against keeping alot of invertebrates and other animals.it is hard to obtain a certificate of capacity in France?

                Hi JM.

Expanding on what KJ and Chris said, there are many areas in the USA where certain types of exotics are considered illegal for keeping, but the pet stores sell them anyway. Working in a veterinary hospital, as I do, we need to know what the area restrictions are, in case we are asked by a client. For example, here in Nebraska, in the city of Omaha, it is illegal to keep ferrets, but you will find them for sale in the big name pet stores. This is a fairly common situation.
