Mary, that's a frightening amount of slings. How many would you expect to survive up to 3rd/4th star? Do you weed them or let nature take its course? And how do you get rid of that many slings? you must have a lot of friends!
The idea of breeding is interesting and ethical, although my L. klugi would also produce such an alarming number that prohibits such a course. I've just reached this stage in Schultz's book who suggests its done for the love rather than the financial gain. I can well believe that.

good question. Does the spider shop buy some? Do you need to kill the ones you can't get rid of?

How long till that egg sack will be ready? Good few months away surely

Well, yes I give away faaar more spiderlings of ANY sp than I sell, ask anyone that knows me, plus I do a competition on another forum, and sometimes on here, that gets rid of a few lol.

When we had our para sac it was 4 years ago and no pooter then, so all were lovingly grown on, (I think we actually lost about 10), ready for BTS, I had loads of them, in the end I was giving away carrierbags full, I didn't know Lee at the time (he better lock his letterbox this time lol), but now I have forums to browse I give away slings to pals and of course sell some to Lee.

Tom, the sac is about 2 weeks old, 10 more to go to pulling it, then around 4 more to spiderlings if I remember rightly.
NO I do NOT kill excess slings, it would be like killing my own babies!!!!

            Hi Mary
just working out the maths if you could grow all 1200 on to about 4 inches and sell at £20.00 each wow thats £24,000.00 from one sac
even allowing a 50% loss to end margin for food and housing etc
            Clinton

            Maxine 9 - 9.5 inch Lasiodora Parahybana

              Maybe Clinton, but
              a) I am not in it for money, but for keeping the species I breed in captivity perhaps.
              b) If a freebie sling makes someone happy then so be it.
              c) I don't have the room to grow that many on to that size lol.

Scott, deflinately take Mary up on the offer! I have 4 para slings, all 1st instar sac mates. Cute at buttons. Can't wait til they molt and can start eating. I am excited about having multiple "monsters" in the house.

Thats a dangerous statement Mary lol. Without more than a split second to think, I could think of at least 20 species that would make me jump for joy. On top of that there's probably 40 or more that would certainly make me smile.

I have a Lasiodora Parahybana. She is only a juvi but a good eater. She is a real hair flicker though. I have also ordered a Lasiodora Klugi from Becky.
